Well there has been some issues in the past with Rand and Jeff(owner of Aviva directory), but pulling out something like this is really not a call by any reputed SEO of his class!

What Rand says is Aviva is not an authority on the basis that it is not ranking for the title term which happens to contain Information Web Directory well this is something really not cool! Well if a website is not ranking for title it doesn’t mean it is not an authority! Well Aviva Directory ranks for many terms related to market issues like 900’s for Web Directory, out of 800,000,000 results. That phrase has an allinanchor:web directory of 2,630,000 and an allinanchor:search engine optimization has only 413,000. They are top 200 for Real Estate Directory, they are #202 for Shopping Directory, in the 400’s for Business Directory, in the 200’s for Insurance Directory! Well ranking for those many highly competitive terms really is the show of a high quality domain!

Well with out doing his research Rand just sued Aviva! There is a very good discussion going about this on the v7n forums where John puts his point on why Rand’s thought are not accurate in this post!

Then we saw rand himself reacted to his post and called it out of character! Well this type of conduct is not called for a person of his reputation!

Then Bob Mutch of seocompany.ca came out to put his points and said rand is correct and Aviva Directory is not an authority! But John kept on giving his insights on SEO and to this Bob kept on disagreeing!

Mike responded to this by saying that ranking for web directory term would be worthless as it would bring traffic which itself is worthless in this post!

Then I too got myself into the war of SEOs to prove a point that rand’s point about rankings in SERPs was incorrect, out of the point, not cool, not proven and even Bob was left thinking! As rankings in the SERPs totally depends upon your anchor text IBLs (and mixing them up! well bob even didn’t knew why should one mix up the anchor texts..i had to tell him that…LOL!)

Well the output of this post of Rand is that people really don’t bother to appreciate others and sue others just on random thoughts!

I put my points on the basis of analysis of the terms, and I am open to constructive criticism so that the free world of SEO achieves the best it deserves!
