NFTP is a text-mode ftp client for (in alphabetical order): BeOS (Intel R4 and up), Digital Unix (Alpha), FreeBSD (Intel), Linux (Intel, SPARC), OS/2, Solaris (SPARC and Intel), Windows 95/NT. Here `text-mode’ means that it runs in fullscreen mode or text window — Command-line session on OS/2, Command Prompt on Windows 95/NT, console or xterm on Unix, Terminal on BeOS. However, with version 1.50 the quasi-GUI version has appeared for OS/2. It looks much like textmode version, but utilizes native GUI menu, some dialog boxes, can be resized freely etc. This does not mean of course that textmode version will be abandoned. X11 version (using Xlib) appeared in version 1.51. One of the main design concepts of NFTP is speed and effectiveness of text-mode keyboard interface. Everything can be done without mouse!

Thanks for compiling this list together Manish! It will come in handy when I eventually transition to Linux.
Can’t agree with including Adobe Acrobat… I only want to READ the PDF files, nothing more, nothing less; collaborating or sharing a document is for a much smaller audience than the audience that merely reads. Soon, this overbloated ‘product’ will be so large that it will only be distributed on DVD. Adobe has totally missed the mark, and the ‘consumer’ is suffering as a result, big time.
Spuffler: I use `evince` it is an amazing, light weight program that loads PDFs quickly and can do basic functions to be able to quickly brows through a PDF.
I only have GNOME, and mysql for work because i use postgresql
Great list of open source application. MySQL is probably the most popular database application out there. Oracle is much more powerful, but can’t match the value you get for a free application. Many of Apache’s software products could be on this list besides JMeter including their Apache and Tomcat servers.
Thanks for this gr8 Linux applications. They are really Good one.
